National Launch of Electronic Prescription Service for Urgent Care

Patients in out of hours or urgent care settings such as walk-in centres, minor injuries units or using NHS 111 will be able to have their prescriptions sent electronically to a pharmacy rather than relying on paper prescriptions with the new Electronic Prescription Service (EPS).

The roll out of the Electronic Prescription Service follows two successful pilots in London and the East Midlands where Advanced’s Adastra patient management system was deployed. FDB Multilex provides comprehensive medicine information that underpins the Adastra prescribing solution. FDB have worked with Advanced and NHS Digital throughout the pilot phase to ensure that the medicines reference data and prescribing solution fully meets the needs of NHS staff.

The pilots took place from December and the roll out has now commenced across the UK. The aim of the EPS is to help reduce NHS winter pressures by providing a faster, better and more efficient system for patients, doctors and pharmacists.
